No Sinulog financial aid yet from Capitol, says Ballesteros

THE Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) yesterday clarified that it is yet to receive the financial assistance from the Cebu Provincial Government for this year’s festivities.

Ricky Ballesteros, SFI executive director, told Sun. Star Cebu that his office has just submitted its request to the Province seeking for financial aid for this year’s festivities.

Ballesteros issued the statement following reports that the Provincial Government already provided the P3-million financial assistance to SFI.

Provincial Treasurer Emmanuel Guial earlier said that the financial assistance was released to the SFI last month, together with the P1.5-million balance of the cash aid for Sinulog 2016.

Ballesteros said that Engr. Pericles Dakay, president of the SFI board of directors, already had an initial commitment from Gov. Hilario Davide III for the release of the financial assistance for this year’s Sinulog.

The financial assistance given by the Cebu Provincial Government to SFI has increased over the past years.

In 2015, the governor approved the release of P1-million financial assistance to the foundation, apart from the P1.5-million assistance promised by the Provincial Government in the previous year.

In 2016, the Province gave P3 million to the SFI.

Ballesteros said he is confident that the Province will give the same support for this year’s Sinulog festivities.
