THE Provincial Government is all set to hold the Kuyamis Festival 2017 and the 87th Anniversary of Misamis Oriental which kicks off on Monday, January 9.

Misamis Oriental (MisOr) Governor Yevgeny Emano said various activities have been lined up for the week-long celebration for visitors and residents including the Misamis Oriental Booth competition, Meat and Livestock Show, Tiangge sa Kapitolyo, Partners Bazaar, MisOr Food Expo, Destination Photo and Visual Arts Exhibits, Explore MisOr Modern Dance Contest, Municipal Cultural and Variety Show, Kuyamis Tree Planting, MisOr Cooking Demo and Food Fair, and Miss Kuyamis 2017.

Emano said the activities are anchored at promoting tourist spots and destinations of the province that include two hot springs in Tugasnon, Alubijid town and in Balingasag, two white islands in Agutayan, Jasaan and El Salvador and more than 70 waterfalls.

“Tumong nato nga maila ang probinsya pinaagi sa Kuyamis Festival sama sa ubang lugar nga dunay Sinulog ug uban pa (Our aim is for the province to be recognized through the Kuyamis Festival just like other places with Sinulog and others),” Emano said.

He also said the province is mulling to build a pasalubong center at Alubjid town, where people going to and coming from the Laguindingan airport can drop by and shop at the center.

The 16 ladies, representing their towns, are vying for the crown as Miss Kuyamis 2017 will face each other during the coronation night on January 12.

Thousands of local and overseas job opportunities are open for jobseekers as the Provincial Government, along with the Kuyamis festivities, will hold a job fair on January 11.

The Kuyamis job fair is one of the major events at Kuyamis Festival.

Job seekers can visit the job fair at the chess area, McArthur Park, Capitol Compound, this city.

The job fair will only run for a day on January 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to Public Employment Service Office Misamis Oriental, among the companies that have confirmed attendance to the job fair include Bigby's Cafe and Restaurant, Alrose Group of Companies, FDC Misamis Power Corporation, YHMD International Manpower Services Inc., Light and Hope Overseas Placement Agency, Asiapro Cooperative, Del Monte Philippines, Ororama, Fama Foods, Filinvest, Aboitiz, Amaia Land, Nestle, SM Store, and SM Premiere.

According to the provincial tourism office, “Misamis,” of Misamis Oriental, originated from the term “Kuyamis,” which means a variety of golden-colored sweet coconuts that are smaller in sizes.

Coconut was the first fruit offered by the Misamis Negritos to the Spanish colonizers in the province centuries ago.

The Provincial Government, under the leadership of Emano, wants Misamis Oriental to be known locally and internationally, aside from its tourist destinations, but also for the abundance of its coconut trees and coconut products.
