Grains retailers told to renew license early

AN OFFICIAL of the National Food Authority (NFA) has advised the local rice and corn retailers to renew on time their grains license with the NFA to avoid payment of penalty and surcharge.

NFA provincial manager Nieves Toca said the grains retailers in the first district of Zamboanga City have until January 31 from January 3 to renew their license.

Toca said the renewal of license for those in the second district starts February 1. The deadline is February 28.

The boundaries of the NFA districts are patterned after the two congressional districts--first and second--of Zamboanga City.

The first district covers 37 of the 98 villages of Zamboanga City while the remaining 61 villages are within the jurisdiction of the second district.

Toca said the fee for renewal as well as for the new applicants of grains retailers’ license is P550 depending on the business capital.

The NFA manager said those required to secure grains license from NFA are businessman who sell rice and corn.

NFA records showed that there are more than 300 businessmen who are engaged in grains business in Zamboanga City. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
