FIVE alleged members of an organized crime group in Calatrava, Negros Occidental surrendered to the Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSOTG) at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) headquarters in Bacolod City on January 3.

Chief Inspector John Joel Batusbatusan, chief of Calatrava Municipal Police Station, confirmed on Friday the surrender of some members of the Vicera group namely, Demetrio Patatag Jr., Ronald Delima, Carlito Alpas, Jigger Villacorta, and Edmundo Marcelo.

Upon their surrender, the five men yielded .357 caliber, .45 caliber pistol, and several ammunition.

Batusbatusan said the death of the group’s leader, Principles Vicera, who was killed on January 1 by six unidentified men on board a private vehicle at Barangay Lalong, probably triggered the surrender of the five members aside from the police’s intensified war against criminality.

Vicera was the 10th top drug personality under the drugs watchlist of Nocppo, and number one drug suspect under the drugs target list of Calatrava Municipal Police Station.

Despite the surrender of the five men, Batusbatusan said there are some members who are still left in the group.

As of press time, they no longer monitor the existence of the group in the town, he added.
