Weekend shootings leave 2 dead

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy was shot dead when a riot broke out between a group of youngsters in Sitio Maracas, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City yesterday dawn.

Clark (real name withheld) succumbed to a gunshot wound in the chest after a certain “Geremel,” who hails from Barangay Pasil, fired an unidentified caliber of firearm.

According to an initial investigation by the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office, Clark was with his friend, Lea (not her real name), during the incident.

Lea and the victim came from a benefit party held in Sitio Maracas.

While walking home around 12:10 a.m., they passed by a group who were fighting.

In the middle of the chaos, Geremel allegedly fired a shot in a wayward manner, hitting the victim’s chest.

Police are looking for the suspect who fled after the incident.

In Barangay Nangka, Consolacion, two unidentified motorcycle-riding men killed a 27-year-old man last Saturday night.

That same night, a 33-year-old man landed in the hospital after he was attacked by two men who were also on a motorcycle in Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla.

Police are looking into the possibility that the attacks were related to the illegal drug trade.

Police identified the casualty in Nangka as Eddie Saac Ybañez, a motorcycle-for-hire driver.

Witnesses told the police that the victim was walking before the attack happened at 8:30 p.m.

Ybañez was shot him seven times in different parts of his body.

Police recovered seven empty shells of a .40 pistol and a deformed slug in the crime scene.

More than an hour later, Argie Villarino Repollo was shot several times by motorcycle-riding men in Tungkop.

Repollo survived the incident.

Neighbors rushed him to Minglanilla District Hospital but the doctor ordered his transfer to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Repollo suffered three gunshot wounds in the stomach.

The culprits fled toward Barangay Tulay on board their dark-colored motorcycle, which has no license plate.

Repollo is in the top four list of drug personalities operating in Minglanilla.

He has a pending drug possession case but posted bail.
