BAGUIO City officials together with the Baguio City Police destroyed firecrackers confiscated during Monday’s flag raising ceremonies.

BCPO reported P30,320 worth of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices confiscated from December 18, 2016 to January 6, 2017 during their monitoring and operations.

During monitoring in Zandueta Street, 42 pieces of Amor firecrackers, 12 pieces of silver special fountain, 14 pieces of Judas belts, and one battery special fountain were confiscated amounting to P3,000.

Nine pieces of baby rocket, 144 luces, 13 boxes of sparklers, and 56 baby rockets were also confiscated in Hangar Market with a total cost of P4, 680.

A total of P20,640 worth of 120 pop - pop, and 320 mother rockets were also confiscated in Lakandula Street.

In Perfecto Street, a total of P2,000 composed of 16 pop - pop, one pack five star firecrackers, 12 boxes sparklers, and 15 pieces of Luces were also confiscated by police.

The confiscation of the illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices is in line with the “Iwas Paputok Campaign” of Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The Department of Health Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH-CAR) earlier reported a total of three injuries and one stray bullet victim in the city from December 21, 2016 to January 6, 2017.

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan earlier said he is hoping for the council to pass an ordinance in the city banning firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.
