USC bags 2 crowns in CYBL

THE University of San Carlos (USC) snagged both titles in the Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL) VisMin Goodwill Games over the weekend at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in Canduman.

USC outclassed University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 58-38, to win the Under-15 belt.

It was a close game at first with USC just ahead by a point, 13-12, in the first quarter. The Baby Warriors, however, slowly built up the lead, outscoring USJ-R in every quarter including an impressive fourth quarter push for a 20-point blowout.

Briedyn Smith led USC with 13 points, while Jholo Pakanna added 11 points.

Frank Camacho led USJ-R with eight points.

USC also took home the the Under12- division, with a one-sided victory over University of the Visayas (UV), 66-40.

USC started the game slow and was trailing UV, 19-14, after one quarter.

In the second quarter, USC outscored UV, 23-9, to take a 37-28 lead. From then on, USC never looked back and held UV to just 12 points in second half, while scoring 29.

Richard Jumamoy led USC with 13, while Justin Betinol added 12. Jamamoy and Batinol scored 19 of USC’s 23 points in the second quarter.

Dirk Baguio and Matheaus Omamalin scored nine and eight points respectively. Baguio and Omamalin scored all of their points in the first and never scored a single point after that.
