Police rescue 11 trafficking in person victims

THE local police, in coordination with the Regional Inter-Agency Count against Trafficking, rescued 11 trafficking in person victims in a west coast village of Zamboanga City, an official said Tuesday, January 10.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula Information Officer Rogelio Alabata said the victims were rescued around 5 p.m. Sunday in the village of Campo Islam, Zamboanga City.

Alabata said the rescue came after the local police received information on the presence of the trafficking in persons’ presence in the area.

He said the victims, who are all women, are from the following places: Davao Del Sur, Butuan City, Zamboanga City, Rizal, Las Piñas City, La Union, Lucena City, Nueva Ecija, Kalinga, Taguig City, and Palawan.

The oldest among the victims is 42 years old and the youngest is 19, Alabata said.

They were placed under the care of a non-government organization for temporary shelter and eventual return to their respective places of origin, he added. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
