2 Landslides hit town

LANDSLIDES were reported in two barangays in Consolacion after heavy rains continued yesterday.

According to the Consolacion command center, two houses were affected due to the soil movement in Barangay Cabangahan at 6:40 a.m., while a road in Barangay Lanipga became inaccessible at 10 a.m.

No one was injured in both incidents, Danilo Villar, the radio operator of the command center, said in an interview.

The Municipal Government immediately sent a backhoe to clear the road in Lanipga.

In Cabangahan, Adrian Taruc, one of the responders from the Municipal Hall, said the kitchen and roof of one of the two houses in La Montaña Subdivision were damaged.

Aside from the landslides, flooding was also experienced in Barangays Nangka, Pitogo, Cansaga and Jugan.

The Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) Office recorded 45 families or 241 individuals that were evacuated from Cansaga to the covered court of the Consolacion National High School.

The Cansaga River overflowed, affecting the houses nearby and in the neighboring barangays.

May Silva, MSWD officer, said the municipality provided the water and rice while the barangay gave viand for the evacuees.

“We will wait until the weather improves before we allow the families to go back to their houses because even the barangays will not recommend that they go back at this time,” Silva said.

The families affected by the flood are in need of rice, water, clothes and pails.
