Security for Miss Universe candidates assured

THE Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) said Thursday that its personnel are ready to provide security for all Miss Universe candidates as they travel to several areas in the country.

PNP-HPG spokesperson Elizabeth Velasquez said 79 police personnel will be in-charge of the on-road security of the candidates.

"Ang magiging role namin sa Miss Universe is traffic management and escort sa convoy ng Miss Universe. Bale 79 personnel na [ang] naka-deploy ngayon kasi maraming places of engagement. Kumuha tayo ng mga personnel from that respective units para kada punta ng candidates doon sa mga places na iyon ay merong nakatalaga na mangangalaga," she said.

Pre-coronation night activities for the Miss Universe pageant will start next week.

Aside from the Metro Manila, candidates are also set to visit Vigan, Baguio, Batangas, Palawan, Boracay, Cebu and Davao.

Velasquez said the planning team is still working on the designated routes the Miss Universe convoy will utilize to ensure smooth travel.

"May mga special routes tayo (na inaayos). May mga ruta na tinalaga para daanan ng convoy," said Velasquez, adding that there will be instances that the Miss Universe convoy will pass through the Edsa, the country's busiest highway.

However, she said they are coordinating with the Metro Manila Development Authority and the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic for the smooth flow of traffic in Edsa while the Miss Universe convoy is passing through.

Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte said there will be no road closure during the conduct of the prestigious beauty contest to avoid inconvenience to the public. (Sunnex)
