ONE of the 21 victims rescued from the gas station fire in Pasig City Wednesday morning has died in the hospital, a Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) official said Thursday.
Arson investigator Senior Inspector Anthony Arroyo said William Khey, 39, who obtained 98 percent burn in his body died, while being treated at the Philippine General Hospital. He was an employee of Omni, a liquefied petroleum gas refilling station, which caught fire Wednesday morning.
Arroyo said 20 other victims of the incident are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals.
Nineteen of the victims were employees of the gas station, while the other one is a worker at a nearby furniture shop.
Arroyo said the BFP, Department of Energy, Department of Labor and Employment and the City Government of Pasig are still conducting investigation on cause of the incident.
"Confirm na nagkaroon talaga ng leak sa tangke...sinubukan [nila] i- dissipate sa atmosphere pero dahil mabigat nga ‘yung LPG ito ay napunta sa bunk houses at nag-accumulate doon at ‘yung ignition doon ang nag-cause ng explosion," he said, adding that the bunk houses that serve as employees' quarters are 15 meters away from the tank.
Arroyo noted that the Omni refilling gas station has complied with all the necessary permits to operate. (Sunnex)
