EVERY Cebuano gears up for this and every tourist marks his calendar for this—The Sinulog Festival.

Partaking in a festival as sensational and significant, not to mention much awaited, as the Sinulog Festival is one that calls for all things mirthful—including one’s outfit. This is just one of the many ways to welcome and partake in this cultural and religious celebration—and a colorful one at that.

Fashion designer Yves Camingue shared that for the past four years, he’s been designing his Sinulog shirts since 2014.

“It was during one plain afternoon at home. I pondered, the market has no ‘fashion’ Sinulog shirt that’s not very obviously colorful and shouts,” he recalled. “I wanted to wear something cool, comfortable yet still striking that makes a statement. With my penchant for sportswear, I had tank tops custom-made and tried to sell them online. And a few friends shared it so that my design would be their official Sinulog uniform.”

This year, Yves presents designs with the theme dubbed VeloCity, fashion fused with faith.

“The theme is all about speed and the rate of change we people undergo if we are influenced by faith, going beyond our limits but with moderation and confident consciousness,” Yves said. “Along speed, we are grounded to a desired direction and that’s where Sto. Niño comes in. Our undying faith has fought all strife.”

The designs are inspired by rock stars and sports racing. “I’m all for maximum design so you can still see the ‘festive’ mood and personality of my brand—but modernized,” he said.
