TAGOLOAN Tarantulas on Tuesday night, January 10, crushed the Claveria Cowboys, 102-88 right before the latter’s home crowd to complete a sweep in the best-of-three finals of the 2016 Kuyamis Festival Inter-Municipalities Basketball League in Claveria, Misamis Oriental.
In hosting the title-series’ opener in Tagoloan, the Tarantulas were also merciless in shattering the Cowboys’ resolve, 111-81.
The Cowboys put up a good fight in the early goings, but the visitors still managed to hang on by eight, 53-45 at the end of the first half.
From there, the Tarantulas never let-up in sustaining the momentum as they even pad the lead to 14 en route to another trouble-free finish.
Jeffrey Morial, a former playmaker of the College of St. Benilde Blazers in the NCAA League, finished with 20 points. While the bull-strong Johnry Dy controlled the rebounds for Tarantulas’ championship win.
Brio Pagara presided the Tarantulas’ offense in the first quarter with his 3-point bombing before Morial took charge in the last two quarters.
"Gamit kaayo ang mga tres ni Pagara kay medyo off akong shooting pagsugod sa dula,” Morial told SunStar Cagayan de Oro.
The Tarantulas got quality minutes also from the troika of regular mainstays Illich Alfante, Maher Eduave, and Warwar Sabuero.
