Cebu City upland brys. hit by landslides

Fourteen landslides hit six mountain barangays in Cebu City last Wednesday following continuous heavy rains. City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) head Nagiel Bañacia said six landslides occurred in Barangay Mabini, three Adlaon, and one each in Sudlon I, Pulangbato, Busay, Budlaan and Agsungot. The soil movement blocked a portion of the road in these villages. No house was damaged. “As of now, the road (in Pulangbato) is still impassable. We can’t touch the area yet because more lose soil might erode,” he said.

Missing child found dead in Umapad, Mandaue

The body of the eight-year-old child who went missing amid heavy rains last Tuesday was found dead near the shore in Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City last Wednesday morning. Charlie Ranile was rushed to the Velez Hospital in Barangay Paknaan, but he was declared dead by the attending physician. In Barangay Paknaan, the more than 30 families that were evacuated due to severe flooding in the 6.5-hectare relocation site are back in their houses. The site was flooded after the Butuanon River overflowed. At least 500 individuals were affected.

MCWD to public: Conserve water this Sinulog

WITH more demand for water during Sinulog, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) asked the public to conserve water. MCWD information officer Charmaine Kara said that due to the heavy rains, their surface water sources were affected by siltation. Water production dropped by around 10,000 cubic meters last Tuesday and Wednesday. The situation will affect more than 9,000 service connections in Barangay Buhisan, Cebu City and certain areas in the downtown area, in Mandaue City, Compostela, Liloan and Consolacion towns.
