Suspect in killing of college student arrested

POLICE arrested late Thursday, January 12, one of the three suspects in the killing of a college student in Zamboanga City.

Chief Inspector Arlan Delumpines, Police Station 5 chief, identified the arrested suspect as Jeffrey Yosores, 22, a resident of Sitio Luyahan in the village of Pasonanca, Zamboanga City.

Yosores was nabbed around 10:10 p.m. Thursday in his residence during a follow-up operation. He was positively identified by a driver as among the four persons -- three males and the victim -- who boarded his tricycle around 9:30 p.m. of January 5 in a shopping mall.

The victim, Erica Jean Rosal, was found dead around 6:30 a.m. of January 6 at the diversion road in the village of Lunzuran.

The victim’s right hand was tied with a rope to her neck and mouth when she was found.

Rosal was a graduating education student of one of the local colleges in the city. She was with her classmate doing their thesis a day before she was found dead.

Delumpines said Yosores was detained while investigation continues in a bid to arrest the other suspects who remain at large.

Yosores vehemently denied the accusations against him, citing he was at the residence of his employer at the time of the incident.

He claimed to be a stay-in worker of one of the local lending firms. (SunStar Philippines)
