Waist-deep floods affect Oro; roads impassable

FLASH flood due to Monday's heavy rain has caused several roads in Cagayan de Oro City impassable and left many residents stranded.

The heavy rain was brought about by the low pressure area, which was spotted in the vicinity of Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay as of 4 p.m. Monday, January 16.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomic Services Administration issued a yellow heavy rainfall warning as of 5 p.m. in Northern Mindanao, as well as in Zamboanga Peninsula (Western Mindanao), Caraga, and North Coatabato.

The warning means flooding is possible in low-lying areas and landslide may occur in mountainous areas.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, several roads in the city were declared impassable. These include the Kauswagan highway, Villarin street, JV Seriña street, Gumamela extension, Zayas in Carmen, Gaabucayan street, Osmeña street, C.M. Recto Avenue, Camaman-an, and Balulang.

Vehicles were stuck up and commuters were stranded in schools and malls due to heavy downpour.

A landslide was also monitored just below the Pryce Plaza hotel in Masterson Avenue Carmen, as well as in Paglaum, Camaman-an.
