Alvarez: Why tourists should visit Davao

SOME members of The Women of Aleitheia, one of the established sororities of the Ateneo Law School in Manila, decided to visit Davao. Since there’s a handful of sorority sisters coming from the Dayanghirang, Melivo, Viva and Sembrano family, who originally lived and grew up in Davao, sisters from Manila got curious about what Davao can offer.

After their six days of tours and backpacking, here are the reasons they say why more tourists should consider visiting Davao:

There are so many things to do and places to visit here. The activities range from being one with nature on highlands to discovering beaches never been heard before in Davao Oriental. The places are totally “Instagram-worthy” as what millennials like to describe it.

Food is cheap for its quality and quantity. With just P200, you can already have a feast! Davao is also perfect for foodies with its bustling culinary industry.

Locals are friendly, accommodating, and disciplined. Rules are strictly followed from the smoking ban to speed limits. Everyone respects one another, regardless of status in life.

You feel safe even when travelling at night and culture is rich and diverse. Another reason is that Davao Bisaya is a language that is interesting and easy to learn.

Moreover, I would like to share then their unforgettable vacation from Day 1 to Day 6. Six days may have been so fast, but in those limited number of stays, they found home. Truly, life is here!

Day 1: Lunch at Coco’s, short stop at Pink Sisters and day tour at Malagos Garden and Resort

If you love peace and serenity, Malagos is perfect. It is situated in a secluded area in the City. It’s also a proof that being one with nature can also be an activity that will bring Zen. They also had close encounters with birds and butterflies. Their famous cheese platter and trademark hot chocolate drink were to die for!

Day 2: Day tour at Eden Nature Park and Resort, dinner at Ahfat and Night Cap at The White House

True to its name, it is really a paradise. With different kinds of flowers and trees surrounding the place, nature lovers would definitely love it. They also got to experience cycling in the sky! Everything is possible here in Davao!

They say that this place is perfect for night cap! The place is regal and the vibe it exudes is elegant. This is the best place to be for late- night catching up with best friends. Titas of Manila should pay a visit!

Day 3: Island hopping at Samal Island and road trip to Mati, Davao Oriental

Unlike Manila, where one would have to travel for three hours just to get to the beaches, Samal Island’s distance with the city provides convenience especially for beach lovers. Also, the beach is so clean and crystal clear.

Day 4: Surfing at Menzi

They admired the pristine sand and the beach’s clear and clean water. If you’re looking for non-commercialized resorts, this is perfect! It’s also a bonus that Amihan boys are so good in teaching surfing for beginners. The government made a good job in preserving this treasure.

Days 5 and 6: Courtesy call with Governor Nelson Dayanghirang , Horseback riding at Lahora Beach, Survivor Games at Lahora and Trail at Pilar Waterfalls, Tagtalisay in Manay

Governor Nelson Dayanghirang taught them the history of Davao Oriental and its different seasons. They have learned that the Amihan season provides bigger waves for those who love to surf hence it is the perfect time to book for a trip.

Lahora beach is one of the unheard beaches in Manay, Davao Oriental. The place also gives calmness which automatically removes all the stresses away. At night time, the sky turns pink, blue, and orange. You can post it on your Instagram even with filter! #nofilter.

Here, they have decided to stage their do-it-your own survivor games at the beach. It was a perfect background for their competitive juices.

For them, these waterfalls are a revelation! The water is so cold and clean. Perfect for those who like to go on trekking.

Ah, I must say that Davao is like heaven. Definitely filed under “go-to places” not just for vacation but for long-term stays.
