Flood-related deaths claim 2 lives in Naga

HEAVY rainfall yesterday caused two deaths in the City of Naga.

The first victim was a five-year-old girl identified as Ailen Rose Paquit. She drowned when flood damaged her family's house in the mountain barangay of Patag.

Water that had accumulated in the covered court 20 meters from the victim's house caused the covered court's walls to collapse.

Water and debris struck the house, which was made of semi-concrete materials.

The flood created a hole in their house and she was carried by the strong current.

Her mother Erlin and her uncle Omar Digoma survived after they grabbed hold of a tree.

PO3 Benson Aldenita of the Naga Police Station said the family was asleep when the incident happened around 7 a.m.

Ailen's body was recovered an hour later in the Guindulan River. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

The second incident happened five hours later in Barangay Mayana.

Arvin Entroliso, 18, was fishing in a muddy swamp the size of two basketball swamps when he drowned in its deep portion.

The rescue team recovered his body at 5 p.m.

The City Government will shoulder Paquit and Entroliso's burial expenses.
