Neri: Birthdays

WHEN our dear uncle Tomas Garcia turned all of 89 years a few weeks ago, his US-based children came home to mark the milestone with him... Maricar with husband Tony Davis and daughter Colby; Marice with husband Douglas Langford and daughter Carmina; and Victor with son Jordan. Their Cebu-based siblings Dr. Dan with wife Joey, and Gigi with wife Inday Lormita and Marite, the wife of Marvin (he is abroad) laid the groundwork for the joyous celebration at the Cebu Grand Hotel. Also absent was youngest son Paco who couldn’t leave his work in Australia.

Tio Tom is one of the most active eighty-niners hereabouts. He sings regularly at his favorite sing-along joint and hangs around with younger friends at coffee shops discussing life, love, politics and anything under the sun.

Sitting with him at the presidential table during the party were his two surviving brothers, former deputy speaker of Congress/Cebu governor Pablo Garcia; younger brother Mike Garcia with wife Carmen; and nephews and nieces including former congressman Pablo John Garcia and former Cebu governor and now Congresswoman Gwen Garcia. It was a touching celebration with the children and grandchildren presenting musical and dance numbers. Of course Tio Tom joined in the singing and dancing.

“Drive Thru at 62” was one lovely evening for birthday girl Sheila Colmenares (she runs Leisure Travel), who with loving hubby Caloy, led a group of friends on a joy ride aboard the VIP Party Bus around the city with stops at Il Corso in SRP, Plaza Independencia and finally at F Cafe at The Gallery. On the VIP bus, passengers get to watch and enjoy music videos, drink and dance, or just simply chat and laugh to their hearts’ content. It was another one-of-a-kind celebration authored by the irrepressible Sheila.

Korean Air’s Ann Momongan gathered a small group of friends for a sumptuous dinner at Tsay Cheng to celebrate her birthday. By her side was loving husband, Dr. Manuel Momongan and son Anthony. It was a reunion of sorts for the travel group who went with her to the Holy Land last November. Also around were members of the Rama clan led by her good friend Annabelle Rama Gutierrez.
