THE running clinic of Olympian Mary Joy Tabal and her coach John Philip Dueñas will kick off this Saturday at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
The clinic is part of the SM2SM Run 7 and is free to all registered participants in the run. The first 100 participants will get free shirts.
Tabal and Dueñas will teach the basics of running in the first session of the clinic. It will be followed by running sessions on Jan 28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11.
Tabal and Dueñas have partnered with SM Cebu for the clinic to prepare the newbie runners and help them prevent injury while training for the race, which is set on Feb. 19 at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu.
The 7th SM2SM Run is targeting to draw 7,000 runners in the 21-kilometer, 12K, 7K and 3K categories.
Tabal, 27, the first Filipina marathoner to qualify and finish a marathon in the Olympics, is the defending 21K champion of the SM2SM Run.
P500K in prizes
A whopping P500,000 worth of cash prizes will be at stake for the runners. The participants will also have the chance to win one of the exciting raffle prizes.
The men’s and women’s 21K champion will each win P70,000; the second placers will pocket P40,000; and the third placers will get P25,000. The 12K champions will get P20,000, while P10,000 await the top runners in the 7K, and P5,000 for the 3K.
The race is for the benefit of the Cebu News Workers Foundation, Inc. and the Children of Cebu Foundation.
Registration fee is at P950 for the 21K, P750 for the 12K, P650 for the 7K and P550 for the 3K. Entry forms are available at the second floor, SM Northwing near Flawless and Upper Ground Floor near Adidas.
