Zamboanga City gov’t releases financial aid to fire victims

THE Zamboanga City Government released P1.3 million representing its financial assistance to 299 families affected by fire that broke out on Christmas night in the village of Camino Nuevo.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar personally distributed the cash assistance on Tuesday, January 17, to the affected families at the City Hall conference room.

The list of beneficiaries was based on the assessment of the City Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Ma. Socorro Rojas.

Rojas said of the 299 families, a family of one individual who died in the fire received P10,000, while a 177 families whose homes were totally burned down received P5,000 each, totaling to P885,000.

She said the other beneficiaries were 115 families tagged as house sharers or renters received P3,000 each for P345,000, making a grand total of P1,249,000.

An earlier report said one resident named Rogelio Ubat succumbed to a cardiac arrest when he saw his house on fire, while five other people were injured.
