Road Discipline Task Force launched in Davao

THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Wednesday, January 18, launched the Road Discipline Task Force to strictly enforce the existing traffic laws to address the worsening traffic condition in the city.

DCPO Spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Catherine dela Rey said that the task group, under the Deputy City Director for Operations Superintendent Ireneo Caburnay, is designed to instill discipline among motorists for them to observe proper road practices.

The task group, which began operation prior to the arrival of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, has been useful in easing the traffic congestion in major thoroughfares.

Dela Rey said that Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao Regional Director Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan and DCPO City Director Senior Superintendent Michael John Dubria led the clearing operation of the major roads.

The task force was also formed for upcoming national and international events to be held in the city.

The city recently hosted the Philippine's chairmanship launching of Association of Southeast Asian Nation (Asean) Summit 2017.

Dela Rey said that they would impose an aggressive approach in implementing traffic codes, regulations and ordinances of the city as they would strictly monitor unlicensed drivers and unregistered vehicles.

Also part of the operation is the removal of hazardous and unauthorized road signage, illegal parking and undesignated vendors along the sidewalks in coordination with the Land Transportation Office, City Transport and Traffic Management Office and barangay volunteers. (JCR)
