McDonald’s PH poised to sustain double digit growth in 2017

MCDONALD’S Philippines opens the new year with a bullish outlook, and is poised to mirror its double-digit growth achievement in 2016.

Dr. George T. Yang’s Golden Arches Development Corporation (GADC,) majority owner and master franchise holder of McDonald’s in the Philippines, has announced its double digit growth of 14 per cent revenue [38 billion] in 2016 from previous year.

Kenneth S. Yang, President and Chief Executive Officer of McDonald’s Philippines, attributed the robust performance of the company to the healthy same store sales growth of 7% driven by the company's continued focus on service and the success of its locally relevant menu offerings like the favorite Chicken McDo and value offers like Chicken Fillet, as well as menu introductions including Cheesy Eggdesal for breakfast, McFreeze, McShare Box, and the recent launch of Mushroom Pepper Steak.

McDonald's Philippines continues its aggressive expansion with store openings all over the country. In 2016, McDonald’s opened 45 new stores including the milestone 500th store located along Tagaytay Calamba Road.

"Our double-digit performance in 2016 showed that we ensured our fundamentals are strong, and we made the right innovation and expansion decisions. This year, we aim to sustain that momentum as we continue to listen and respond to our customers’ preferences and be present in more areas nationwide,” says Kenneth S. Yang.

GADC aims to maintain its double digit growth in 2017 with more new store openings nationwide and exciting menu innovations. McDonald’s is looking to open another 45 new stores in more cities in the country, especially outside Metro Manila.

Aside from opening new restaurants, McDonald’s is planning to continuously grow its McDelivery, McCafe and Dessert Center business, making their products more accessible to more customers.

Since the McDonald’s master franchise was granted to George T. Yang in 1981, McDonald’s has been a formidable player in the country’s quick service restaurant industry, growing to 520 stores by the end of 2016, with 45% of stores owned by other independent franchisees. From a humble restaurant in Morayta, Manila, which employed less than a hundred people, McDonald’s now has more than 50,000 regular employees and has become a wholly-owned Filipino company.
