Zambo residents alerted amidst inclement weather

ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on Thursday, January 19, ordered the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) to identify the areas with damaged riprap projects.

Salazar ordered Dr. Elmeir Jade Apolinario, CDRRMO chief, to closely coordinate with the village officials for further assistance while the City Engineers Office has been tasked to undertake necessary corrective measures.

Riprap projects damaged due to heavy rains were initially reported in the village of Sta. Maria and Tugbungan.

CDRRMO personnel monitored and responded to flood prone areas early dawn Thursday when the Pasonanca diversion dam level hit 75.90 meters, way above the normal level of 74.20 meters.

Due to heavy rains, rivers swelled and some streets and low-lying areas such as Tugbungan and Tumaga were flooded.

Salazar has advised the residents to continue taking precautionary measures in light of the inclement weather condition experienced in this city. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
