VETERAN pitcher Arthur "A-Art" Alvarez powered Alsbals Team to a 4-1 rout of Chatbalsin the finals to rule the 1st Balingasag Fast Pitch Softball Open Mayor Marrietta Abogado Cup last Sunday at Balingasag Central Dugout in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.
Alsbals relied much on Alvarez's signature curveballs throwing to befuddle the opposition. It also set the tone for its four home runs courtesy of Darcy Durban, Kim Cayaba Cruz, Mark Gumapo and Chester Linasan all in the first of the five innings.
Only Ademz Guanzon scored a home for Chatbals off an ALSBALS error in the fourth inning.
The 55-year-old Alvarez, adjudged as best pitcher and most valuable player of the tournament, pulled a surprise when he scored a perfect game against Barangay Talusan in the opener of the single knockout tournament.
A perfect game is when a pitcher denied any batter or hitter to run in the first base.
"Taud-taud sab ko wala makakita ni A-Art nga naka-perfect game siya, (It’s been awhile since I was able to see A-Art achieve a perfect game)" said Durban.
Alsbals took outright seat in the finals after Iponan got forfeited in the semifinals.
"Ni-forfeit sila kay ni-cross sab sila og dula sa baseball mao nga baseball ilang gipili nga priority," said Alvarez, who is a regular mainstay with the Cagayan de Oro Water District Engineering and Maintenance Department.
Alsbals also bagged the remaining special awards.
Cruz was named as "best hitter", while Linasan received the "most stolen base" award.
