OCD-CAR lauds disaster partners

THE Office of Civil Defense Cordillera Administrative Region (OCD-CAR) recently awarded service partners in the region who have championed disaster management and preparedness during the 2016 Cordillera Gawad Kalasag Awards Night at CAP building in Camp John Hay on January 18.

OCD-CAR information officer Frances Carasi said the awards were given to agencies, groups and individuals for their swift action during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Lawin in October 2016 for the five provinces declared under State of Calamity.

Carasi said contributions of the different individuals and organizations in many ways paved the way for the immediate recovery and rehabilitation of typhoon hit communities.

OCD-CAR acknowledged positive response and continuous support of government agencies and private organizations to their DRRM efforts in the region.

Awards went out to the 503rd Infantry Brigade, 5ID, PA (for the whole Cordillera Region) - COL Roy Devesa INF (GSC) PA; 50th Infantry Battalion, 5ID, PA (For the province of Kalinga) - LTC Gulliver Senires INF (GSC) PA; 54th Infantry Battalion, 5ID, PA (for the provinces of Ifugao, Benguet incl Baguio city, & Mt Province) - LTC Nicolas Quemado Jr. INF (GSC) PA; 24th Infantry Battalion, 5ID, PA (for the prov of Abra) - LTC Thomas Dominic INF (GSC) PA; 17th Infantry Battalion, 5ID, PA (for the prov of Apayao) - LTC Rembert Baylosis INF (GSC) PA; Tactical Operations Group 1 and Tactical Operations Group 2, both from the Philippine Air Force.

Other agencies that were awarded are Police Regional Office Cordillera PROCOR – RPSB; Philippine Information Agency – CAR; Department of Public Works and Highways – CAR; National Telecommunications Commission – CAR; Department of Education – CAR; SM City Baguio; Commission on Higher Education – CAR; Department of Agriculture – CAR; Department of Health – CAR; Department of Environment and Natural Resources; Bureau of Fire Protection – CAR; Pagasa Baguio Weather Station; GLOC 215; Kabalikat; 911 On Call; SMART Telecommunications; DICT; BENECO; DILG-CAR; DSWD-CAR; Neda-CAR; and Movement for Resilience and Rural Development (MRRD).

DRRM Commitment Awards were also given to individuals who have contributed remarkable accomplishments and demonstrated exemplar leadership qualities in the implementation of different projects and programs for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

Carasi said they have signified the extraordinary efforts and the concrete evidence of commitment, passion, integrity and genuine interest to protect the people.

The award is given to individuals who went out of their comfort zone and went against their limitations to selflessly serve the public.

Awarded were Nerissa Barbosa, Benguet DRRM Coordinator for DepEd; Abner Lawangen, Tublay MDRRMO; Erosbon Sabedo, Licuan-Baay MDRRMO; Atty. Edward Chumawar, PDRRMO; Yoshio Labi, La Trinidad MDRRMO; and PSSUPT Angelito Casimiro, PROCOR Deputy for Operations.

OCD-CAR also awarded the Regional Gawad KALASAG 2016 to the University of the Cordilleras – Best School; Municipality of La Trinidad – 1st Place Best MDRRM (1st to 3rd Class); Municipality of Luna - 2nd Place best MDRRM (1st to 3rd Class); Municipality of Tublay – 1st Place Best MDRRM (4th to 6th Class); BBPICAG – Best Volunteer Group; Tuba Fire Station – 1st Best Govt Agencc MGT Services; Baguio City EMS – 2nd Govt Agencc MGT Services; Baguio City – Best Highly Urbanized City; Apayao – 1ST Best PDRRM and Mountain Province – 2nd Best PDRRM.
