THE 2017 Blue Cup Football Festival, which provides an avenue for aspiring players, is set to unfurl on February 18 and 19 at the Tionko Football Grounds and the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Football Field.

Tournament coordinator Rachelle "Ching" delos Reyes, in a phone interview with SunStar Davao, said they came up with an annual event to provide the athletes in the grassroots to display their skills and talents in football.

"Ginawa namin ito kasi para naman makapaglaro 'yung mga batang tournaments talaga at hindi lang sila puro practices," she said, adding that the event also aims to promote football within the city and nearby provinces.

The tournament coordinator, however, said they included futsal in the three-day 7-A-Side tournament considering it will also be included in the Palarong Pambansa.

"Required din kasi sa mga athletes ang number of games para makasali sa Palaro," delos Reyes added.

The mixed 2010, mixed 2008, boys 2002 and 2000, and girls 2000 (futsal) will be played on the opening day while the boys 2004, girls 2004, men's open and women's open (futsal) will be held the following day. (ABM)
