Fire hits Zambo village; 55 families left homeless

FIFTY-FIVE families were left homeless in an early morning fire that hit Labuan village, Zamboanga City, Saturday, January 21.

Chief Inspector Clint Cha, Zamboanga City District fire marshal, said the fire broke out around 3:55 a.m. in one of the houses at Purok 3, Labuan village.

He said the fire rapidly spread to nearby houses, all of which were made of light materials. There was no reported casualty.

Labuan village captain Ronald Maravilla said 44 houses occupied by 55 families were razed to the ground.

The origin of the fire could be an unattended candle since there was no electricity in the affected community, he said.

Some of the fire victims are now temporarily sheltered at the village covered court while others have sought refuge to their families living nearby.

Cha said they have yet to ascertain the worth of properties that were damage by the fire. (SunStar Philippines)
