60 drug dependents complete rehab program

A POLICE regional official said 60 drug dependents who underwent a Camp-based Drug Rehabilitation Program (Cadre) of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao has completed the one month intensive program.

PRO-Northern Mindanao spokesperson Superintendent Surki Sereñas said some 80 drug dependents had enrolled to the "Cadre: Life after Tokhang" program initiated by former PRO-Northern Mindanao regional director Chief Superintendent Noel Constantino in November last year.

The 90-day drug rehabilitation program is composed of sessions facilitated by experts from the PRO-Northern Mindanao's non-government organization partner.

"Those who have completed the first month of intensive rehab are presently on the monitoring phase where clients will be subjected to random drug test, skills training and eventually employment," Sereñas said.

Sereñas said Cadre participants will still be made to report to Camp Alagar in Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City for the random drug testing and to their respective barangays as part of the monitoring.

"Magpakita sila sa barangay and moreport sila dinhi para sa random drug testing (They will report here for the random drug testing)," Sereñas said.

He said the 60 participants who survived the program may likely undergo a skills training possibly during the last month of their monitoring through the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (Tesda) for their future employment and livelihood opportunities.

Sereñas said drug dependents who did not complete the program were removed due to absences, loss of willingness and cooperation, and, in some cases, a return to drug use.

Sereñas said further that Cadre program is now being practiced in all city and provincial PNP offices.

"Some have even finished their initial batch like Lanao del Norte. Other units have implemented it through coordination with local government units in Iligan, Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro," the official said.
