Barangay councilor, another shot dead in La Libertad

A BARANGAY councilor and another man were shot dead by unidentified assailants in separate incidents in La Libertad, Negros Oriental, Friday afternoon, January 19, for still unknown reasons.

An initial police report identified the first victim as Jojo Gargar Gantalao, 45, married, a barangay councilor and resident of Sitio Dalakit in Barangay San Jose, La Libertad town.

Early investigation showed the victim was shot multiple times by unidentified suspects on board a motorcycle.

Gantalao was rushed to the Guihulngan City District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Responding policemen recovered from the crime scene one live ammunition, seven empty shells, one magazine with five live rounds of ammunition and two slugs of a caliber .45 pistol.

The second victim, identified as Filomeno Vergara, was also shot dead by unidentified men around 5 p.m. in Barangay Pisong, also in La Libertad.

Vergara was also brought to Guihulngan District Hospital.

The motives for both shooting incidents have yet to be ascertained. (PNA)
