Megrino gearing up for Japanese foe

AFTER a stunning knock - out win in October last year, Highland Boxing gym’s Rey Megrino is on the prowl to add another win to his professional record as he takes on Japanese Yoki Kobayashi on March 11 at the Hongkong Convention and Exhibition Center.

Winning eight of his last nine fights, Megrino is poised to continue his winning streak against Kobayashi in an eight round duel for the super bantamweight division.

Kobayashi who has won four of his last nine fights is eager to go back in the win column after losing to Ye Joon Kim in November last year after scoring a unanimous decision victory against Hiroshi Konoura back in August 2016.

Coach Jj Jorda meanwhile said their camp is currently training for his speed and footwork in preparation for this Hongkong encounter.

Megrino’s ranking had been climbing the charts since his straight wins from June 2012 with only one controversial draw in April 2016 against fellow Filipino Jonathan Baat for the interim OPBF Bantam weight title. (Sharma Buteng)
