Tabac, Castillo top Mt. Megatong race

ELIAS Tabac and Giegs Castillo topped the First Mt. Megatong Trail Run Challenge held over the weekend in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.

Tabac, who hails from Bayugan, Agusan del Sur, checked in at four hours and 36 seconds to annex the men's 32-kilometer title over Marjuter Retes (4:42:56), Jeorge Andradel (4:47:38), Jabes Pido (4:51:30) and Nerejun Saromines (4:53:08) who occupied the next four spots.

In the distaff side, Castillo of the Davao Ultrarunners Club clocked a total of 9:14:00, besting next four finishers Jessa Bolanio (9:14:02), Johang Cordita (9:39:29), Cecilia Larobis (9:53:16) and Azenith Balbutin (9:59:00).

The top five finishers received P3,500, P2,500, P2,000, P1,000 and P1,000.

The rest of the finishers were Liza Sanchez, Frankie Tongco, Caleb Galido, Rey Panes, Ulases Cervantes, Tata Pagal, Ludwig Espinosa, Hydee Sulamin, Christina Yung and Jeffrey Aparici. They all received finisher certificates.

Jorge Esguereda timed 23:04 to rule the male 3.5k event over Chong Kain (23:36) and Ricardo Lamper (24:02) who placed second and third, respectively.

Annie Depohe, for her part, registered 25:35 to clinch the female crown at the expense of Murphy Nagger (26:43) and Sharon Gaye Marcohos (28:45).

Esguereda and Depohe received P1,500 each while the next two placers took home P1,000 and P800.

Special prizes were also awarded to Team Titans Davao (biggest delegation), JabesPido (fastest 32k runner of Department of Environment and Natural Resources category), Samantha Red Pido (youngest female runner), Liza Sanches (oldest 32k female runner) and Manuel Vismano (oldest 32k male runner).

The proceeds of the event were donated to the Ata Manuvu tribe residing at the foot of Mt. Megatong.
