Lumawag: Happy tummies at Polo Bistro

PREVIOUSLY, Foodie Mom posted a photo of Polo Bistro’s Monster Burger, which looked delicious. I got curious, so I decided that for my next meal it would be at Polo Bistro in Marco Polo Hotel Davao.

The Monster Burger looked really big from Foodie Mom’s post so I decided to bring two of my friends, Glenn and April, to have dinner here. It has also been a while since the three of us got together.

The place

Polo Bistro is located at the 4th floor of Marco Polo Hotel Davao just beside the swimming pool.

I like how airy the place looked with the high ceiling and glass doors. I also love the tropical and rustic feel of the restaurant.

The food

For our appetizer, we ordered the Bacon-wrapped Chicken Fillets with Chive Cream and Mango Relish (P320, large). Then for our main course we ordered Polo Bistro’s Famous Baby Back Ribs (P570) and the Monster Burger with French Fries and Coleslaw (P499). Then for dessert we had the Warm Liquid Center Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream (P180). A warm Ciabatta was served to kick-off our meal.

The Bacon-wrapped Chicken Fillets tasted great even though some of them have overcooked bacon. It went well with the Chive Cream and Mango Relish. It was a great way to start our meal.

Polo Bistro’s Famous Baby Back Ribs was served with barbecue sauce, potato chips, and Pomelo and Green Mango side dish. The baby back ribs we had were tender and very delicious. The Pomelo and Green Mango side dish also tasted great and were very refreshing.

When we were half-way through the ribs, they served the Monster Burger. I love how they already sliced it into four portions when they served it to us. The burger is big enough to feed three people.

Aside from the regular burger patty, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese, the Monster Burger also has salted eggs, bacon, and caramelized onions.

The burger was delicious and I find the patty to be juicy. I also think the ingredients complemented each other.

We also enjoyed the coleslaw, it was not all mayonnaise. I love that their fries are real potatoes and not those frozen ones in the supermarket.

I have to say the servings of both of our mains were big enough to keep the three of us satisfied.

To end the meal, the Warm Liquid Center Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream was served. We also enjoyed the dessert; I love how the Vanilla Ice Cream complemented the banana bread pudding. I like how the ice cream was served on a separate bowl instead of being on top of the dessert.

My only comment about the dessert is, it was more like banana bread than a banana bread pudding. I expected the bread pudding to be gooier, like what I’m used to having but the dessert was still good though.

The prizes of the food here are quite high but I based on what we experienced, I think you will get what you paid for.

The service

The service usually plays a huge part in the dining experience of a customer and the service we experienced from Polo Bistro was phenomenal!

The waiters were friendly, polite, and very attentive. I noticed how quickly they fill-up our glasses with water when it is almost empty.

I like how engaging and friendly the staff were but not to the point that they are overly friendly (feeling close).

I do find the pacing of the food service to be somewhat dragging at the beginning. Our starter was served around 25 minutes to 30 minutes after we gave our order. However, after the starter was served, the pacing of the food improved. After finishing our starters, the baby back ribs were served five minutes later. Then 15 minutes later or halfway through the ribs the burger was served. Dessert was served around five minutes later after finishing our mains.

Despite the hiccup during the food service, the whole service from the moment we arrived to the end of our meal was phenomenal. Definitely one of the best I have experienced.

I also find the WiFi connection to be fast and stable.

Bottom line

Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience at Polo Bistro. The food was great while the service was amazing! The price of their dishes are quite high but based on our experience, you get what you pay for.

At the end of the meal, our tummies were very happy and we went home happy too.

I would recommend that you come here to have lunch or dinner here with your friends or special other.

Polo Bistro is located at the 4th floor of Marco Polo Hotel Davao, which is along Roxas St. It is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

I forgot to take a photo of the desserts portion of the menu but I remember the name of the dessert to be something like that. (Published on Kapediaries.wordpress.com)
