Missing woman’s body found inside septic tank in Lapu

A 52-year-old woman was found dead inside a septic tank of a commercial establishment in Barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday morning.

The woman was identified as Jocelyn Berdin, a resident of Sitio Atis in Canjulao, after her body was taken out from the tank in Purok Mangga past 2 p.m.

Berdin, who was reportedly mentally ill, has been missing since Jan. 20.

The workers of the establishment found the body after they tried to clean the clogged tank.

PO3 Joseph Rouel Cutanda of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section, said it was Darwin Sereno who noticed that there was something unusual in the septic tank.

That time, the tank was covered with a piece of plywood.

Sereno told the police that he saw a slipper near the tank last Jan. 21. He saw the other slipper floating in the septic tank last Jan. 23.

Sereno said he and his companion saw the portion of the victim’s body at 11 a.m. yesterday.

“They thought it was a sack. They even used a stick to take it out,” Cutanda said.

Police have not yet determined the cause of death.
