Elderly man hurt after rescuing Japanese national from fire

AN ELDERLY man was injured after he rescued a Japanese national from a house on fire on Prawn Street, East Homes 2 Subdivision in Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City, on Tuesday.

The injured was identified as Rogelio Ponteras, 63. He suffered minor burns when he rescued Sinuchi Kominako, owner of the house on Block 42, Lot 44. The latter was at the living room when the fire broke out around 11:50 a.m.

Kominako had difficulty going out of the house because of an injury on his left leg. His house helper was outside doing the laundry.

Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva, arson investigator of Bureau of Fire Protection-Bacolod, said the fire started from the kitchen.

The fire was put out around 12:10 p.m. and left an estimated damage of P150,000.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
