Angeles cop chief sacked over alleged extortion

THE Central Luzon police office director has ordered the relief of the Angeles City Police chief over the alleged involvement of some of his men in the extortion of South Korean nationals.

Police Regional Office-Central Luzon director Chief Superintendent Aaron Aquino said he ordered the relief of Angeles City Police chief Senior Superintendent Sidney Villaflor due to "command responsibility."

He said Villaflor will be placed under the PNP regional holding unit and will be replaced by Senior Superintendent Jose Hidalgo Jr.

Under Villaflor’s leadership, two abduction incidents involving Korean nationals as victims had transpired.

In October last year, South Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo was taken by alleged members of PNP-Anti-illegal Drugs Group from his home in Friendship Plaza, a subdivision in Angeles City, Pampanga.

From Pampanga, Ick-joo was brought to Camp Crame where he was allegedly killed.

Meanwhile, in December, three Korean nationals were forcibly taken from their house–also in Friendship Plaza–by seven Pampanga cops accusing them of being involved in illegal gambling.

As the police suspects failed to recover any evidences linking the Koreans to illegal online gaming, they just invited the three to the police station and asked them for P200,000.

PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa said the seven policemen and the commander of the police community station 5 were relieved and were placed under restrictive custody following the discovery of the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
