17th Negros Tenpin bowling opens tonight

THE country’s best bowlers as well as new faces show off their talent tonight as the 17th Negros Tenpin Bowling Open Tournament rolls off at Lopue's East Bowling Center at Barangay Villamonte in Bacolod City starting at 7 p.m.

The five-day tenpin bowling extravaganza will be participated by 10 bowling clubs participating Davao, Dagupan, Cebu, Iloilo, Cavite, Alabang, Marikina, Batangas, Baguio, Las Piñas, and Manila.

Last year's top three players, JR Bañes of ITBA, Vivian Padawan of CTBA, and Crystal Chavez of DTBA will be the players to watch in this tournament.

The Philippine Bowling Congress-sanctioned event is open to all bowlers with handicap points given to participants according to PBC's latest listing. An official club certification duly signed by its president will also be used.

Bowlers who are 60 years old and above will be given additional handicap points as long as they submit proof of their age upon registration.

Bowlers must play a minimum of two sets of three games to quality. They will be permitted multiple tries and their two highest set of scores plus handicap shall be counted for qualifying.

Only the top thirty bowlers will advance to the Masters Event.

After five games in the Masters Event, the lowest 20 bowlers based on their total pin falls will be eliminated. The remaining 10 bowlers will play three more games to vie for the top 10 prizes.

The defending champion is automatically qualified for the Masters Event but he must play in the qualifying round.

The champion will receive P50,000; second place, P25,000; and third place, P15,000 with respective trophies.

The fourth place will receive P7,500; fifth place, P5,000; and sixth to tenth placers, P2,000 each.

The top three qualifiers will be given P3,000, P2000, and P1,000, respectively, according to their total scores.

A bowler who played a perfect game will receive P15,000 but the prize will be divided equally if there are more winners.

Tournament fees costs at P2,500 for the registration inclusive of two sets of three games; P400 for the re-entry inclusive of three games; and P1,500 for the Masters Event.
