City gov’t readies for ‘Dia de Zamboanga’

ZAMBOANGA City gears up for the “Dia de Zamboanga” with a month-long celebration in February to commemorate its inauguration as a chartered city 80 years ago.

To celebrate the historic event, the local government has prepared a line-up of activities that will run for the entire month of February, and culminating in the grand celebration of the Dia de Zamboanga on February 26.

City Hall information officer Belen Sheila Covarrubias said the Dia de Zamboanga celebration will officially kick off with the World Inter-faith Harmony Week from February 1 to 7, to be followed by the Dia de Senator Roseller Lim on February 9.

To celebrate the legacy of Roseller Lim, the first and only Zamboangueño to have won a seat in the Senate, the local government will spearhead a commemorative mass and program at the R.T. Lim monument, and the First Outstanding Zamboangueño Youth Leadership awards night at Centro Latino Convention Center.

Covarrubias said highlighting the Dia de Zamboanga celebration will be the Zamboanga Film Festival 2017 from February 20 to 24 at the Cinematheque, the Achievers’ Night 2017 on February 24 at Centro Latino, the Zamboanga Music RunVolution 2017 on February 25, and the culminating program of the 80th Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga on February 26.
