2 teachers nabbed in Oro drug bust

TWO public high school teachers were arrested by police in a drug bust on Thursday, January 26, at Macanhan, Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City.

Authorities identified the drug suspects as Alex dela Vega, 39, and Belyjon Perez, 36, who are both teachers of Carmen National High School and Canitoan National High School, respectively.

Seized from the suspects were nine sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” in different sizes with an estimated value of P30,000.

Senior Inspector Dennis Ebsolo, Police Station 8 chief, said the suspects are tagged as high value target.

Ebsolo said they have been monitoring the activities of the suspects for over two months, adding that they will also probe the suspects' suppliers and source of illegal drugs.

The police have been a partner of the national drug awareness program of the Department of Education.

Ebsolo said the information about the suspects' alleged drug involvement was tipped off by fellow teachers.

"Mga magtutudlo gihapon ang naghatag og information ato lang gidevelop (Their fellow teachers gave us the information, we just develop it)," Ebsolo said.

The suspects will face charges on violations of section 5 (selling) and section 11 (possession) of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act or Republic Act 9165.
