ALMOST 2,000 law enforcement personnel will be involved in the security for the Miss Universe Coronation at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Monday, January 30, a police official said Friday.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Oscar Albayalde said that aside from the 1,300 cops, who will be fielded in the perimeters of the venue, 353 police personnel, including snipers and Special Weapons and Tactics Team (Swat) operatives, will be manning inside the 15,000-seater MOA Arena.
He said 20 police personnel will be deployed in each floor of the indoor arena, including the entry and exit points, while several others will be detailed around the stage, including the back stage and the VIP rooms.
He said that law enforcement personnel detailed to each candidate since the day they arrived in the country would continue to perform their functions until the candidates return to their respective counties.
Albayalde said the 10 front row seats that are reserved for President Rodrigo Duterte and his family will be secured by the Presidential Security Group.
Senior Superintendent Emmanuel Licup, staff for operations of the Security Task Force for Miss Universe 2017, said recently that they will implement a strict security measures for the Miss Universe pageant.
"The PNP will make sure that none of these things will happen during the staging of this pageant. All eyes will be on the Philippines, rightfully we will take this opportunity to showcase the country as a tourist destination. Not only that, the peace and order situation of the country will be highlighted," he said.
Earlier, Licup said no terror threat has been detected in the run up to the international beauty pageant, but intelligence gathering continues with the help of other law enforcement agencies. (SunStar Philippines)
