Lapu-Lapu traffic enforcer shot dead

A MALE traffic enforcer of Lapu-Lapu City was shot dead while he was manning traffic in Barangay Basak past 7 p.m. on Friday, January 27.

Raquel Bensi, a member of the City Traffic Management System (CTMS), suffered gunshot wounds near his right armpit and his back.

Police Officer 3 Lydo Pinos, investigator of Lapu-Lapu Police Office Homicide Section, said Bensi was on-duty when the gunmen arrived and shot him near Tamiya.

The suspects, whose faces were covered with a helmet, were on a motorcycle.

Bensi was believed to be in his 40s.

Pinos said they are looking into Bensi’s work as a traffic enforcer as the initial motive of the killing.

Bensi has reportedly apprehended several drivers with colorum or illegal tricycles in Basak.

Police have yet to identify the culprits.

Last Aug. 6, 2016, the night before Cobra Ironman 70.3 triathlon, CTMS head Frank Brazil was also shot by a lone assailant twice in his back.

Brazil survived the attack.

Police had considered that the shooting was related to the CTMS clearing operations of colorum tricycles in Basak.
