Twin bomb explosion rock Lamitan City

TWO improvised bombs exploded one after the other late Saturday in Lamitan City, Basilan province, the police reported.

Chief Inspector Allan Benasing, Lamitan City police chief, said the first bomb went off around 9:55 p.m., Saturday, in the village of Malakas while the other, a few moments later in the village of Malinis.

Benasing said no one was either killed or injured during the twin bomb explosions.

Benasing said a multicab vehicle was damaged in the first explosion since it was placed on the vehicle. The second bomb was placed beside a concrete fence.

He said they have yet to determine the perpetrators behind the twin bombing.

However, other officials in Lamitan City strongly believe it was the handiwork of the Abu Sayyaf bandits.

Benasing has ordered his personnel to strengthen the conduct of security patrol in downtown Lamitan City especially in areas where vital installations are located. (SunStar Philippines)
