Suspended Tanjay vice mayor’s nephew facing drug raps

DRUG charges were filed last Friday against the nephew of the suspended vice mayor of Tanjay City in Negros Oriental.

Kenneth Teves, 35, of Sta. Cruz Viejo, Barangay Palanas is facing charges for violation of Sections 11 and 12 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

He is the nephew of suspended vice mayor Lawrence Teves and younger brother of the village chief of Barangay Palanas. His father is a former city councilor.

Teves was arrested last Thursday when joint operatives of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Provincial Intelligence Branch, Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency implemented a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 43 Judge Winston Villegas.

During the drug raid, police recovered from a safety vault in Teves’s room six big sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) weighing about 21 grams, drug paraphernalia, and P200,800 cash.

Teves is detained at the custodial facility of Tanjay City Police Station.
