Signal jammers to be installed soon at Cebu City jail

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will put up signal jammers at Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center (BBRC) in Barangay Kalunasan this year.

Osmeña said in a news conference on Monday, January 30, that he plans to install more or less four signal jamming devices in the jail facility that even policemen cannot use their cellphones.

"It is a plug-in system that even police will not have access to," Osmeña said.

He said the signal jammer will destroy the communication system of many drug lords who use cellular phones outside the jail to manage their drug business.

Osmeña said he will talk to City Councilor Dave Tumulak regarding the matter.

The mayor also revealed his long-term plan to convert the Inayawan Sanitary Landfill into a BBRC.

There will be 20 jails inside with 200 inmates and the jail will be in compartments, he said.

Inmates will not see each other and will have their own cafeteria or dormitory, he said. (Tovya Kaiko Galeon, USJ-R Intern/SunStar Philippines)
