Move at risk families

THE Cebu City Council wants the Local Housing Board and the National Housing Authority to identify possible relocation sites for the families affected by landslides in the mountain barangays of Busay, Sirao and Adlaon.

In his privilege speech during their regular session yesterday, Councilor Jerry Guardo said that the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7 has recommended that a permanent relocation site be given to these families.

“It is our utmost intention that as much as possible, our people should be protected and secured all the time. Thus, any threat that endangers the lives of our people should be our paramount concern so their safety will be assured,” Guardo said.

In Busay alone, the councilor said Barangay Captain Amilo Lopez told him that residents in Sitio Garaje are willing to relocate but they need a place to transfer and the materials to start building their new homes.

The legislative body also asked the Department of Social Welfare and Services to conduct stress debriefing to the families affected by landslides due to the trauma they have experienced.

They also requested MGB to provide the City Government an updated geo-hazard map where water-induced landslide areas in Cebu are found to guide the government in identifying relocation sites for the families.
