I’m not for sale: Tomas to BDO over credit card

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has reminded Banco de Oro (BDO) that he is not for sale.

This, after he received a Diners Club International credit card from BDO with a P440,000 credit limit even without applying for it.

“I’m not for sale,” he told reporters after checking the card.

Although he has a Diners Club International card that he used over 10 years ago, Osmeña said it is not powered by BDO.

The mayor was surprised to receive the credit card since he has no existing accounts in BDO.

“Sipsip, di ta madala sa sipsip (We won’t be swayed by favors),” Osmeña said when asked about his reaction.

BDO is facing a legal battle with Osmeña after the latter filed criminal complaint against the bank’s executives and board of directors over the allegedly under-declared and falsified declaration of gross sales for its Magallanes-Plaridel Branch.

According to one of the staff members of BDO, who refused not to be named, Diners Club International is a type of credit card that was previously owned by another bank but was later on bought by their bank.

Since the mayor had the card before, the staff said it is possible that his membership was renewed even without applying for it since he had a previous account with Diners Club International.

The cover letter of the new BDO card sent to Osmeña stated that the bank was pleased to renew his card.
