San Fernando cop wants Korean kidnap-slay case expedited

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Police Regional Office III (PRO-3) Director Chief Superintendent Aaron Aquino said they will be expediting the court hearing on the administrative charges filed against the suspects in the kidnap-slay of Korean businessman Jee Ick-Joo.

Aquino issued the statement following the order of President Rodrigo Duterte and Police Director General Ronaldo "Bato" Dela Rosa to shift their focus from the anti-illegal drugs campaign into cleansing their organization first.

The regional top cop said that they will be requesting the court to expedite the summary hearing against primary suspect SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel and his two co-accused SPO4 Roy Villegas and Ramon Layung.

"We will expedite the case against them so that the summary hearing will be finished in hopefully 30 to 60 days and they will be immediately dismissed from the service," he stressed.

He added that they are set to coordinate with the Korean Embassy regarding the criminal charges, including kidnapping for ransom with homicide, that will be filed against the suspects.

"We will be in touch with the Korean Embassy since they will be the one to file the criminal cases against them," he said.

Meanwhile, the Angeles City Regional Trial Court on Monday ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) to reinvestigate the kidnapping and killing of Jee.

The court granted the motion of Sta. Isabel for another preliminary investigation into the charges filed against him and his co-accused as he questioned his indictment by the DOJ without following due process.

The Angeles City RTC also granted the request of Sta. Isabel to be transferred from the Philippine National Police main headquarters in Camp Crame to the National Bureau of Investigation.

The court cited the security of accused police officers as he tagged high-ranking and powerful police officials in the case he is involved.
