Cebuanos eye gold medal in SEA Games bowling

CEBUANO bowlers Alexis Sy and Jomar Jomapao and the rest of the PHL team hope to bring home gold medals as they leave on June 6 to compete in the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore.

Sy and Jomapao, who were recently awarded by the recent 33rd Sportswriters Association of Cebu-San Miguel Brewery (SAC-SMB) All-Cebu Sports Awards, felt happy to be part of the PHL team.

This will be the first time that Jomapao will be competing in the Sea Games and he felt is a dream come true to be part of the PHL team. The selection was based on the bowlers’ whole year round performances in competition and training.

“I am so happy to be part of the team that will be competing in the Sea Games. This is my first time to compete in this prestigious event. I believe we have a chance at getting a medal this time because we are doing great in our trainings,” said Jomapao.

Jomapao said that they have been training five times a week and three hours a day.

Sy, on the other hand, will be making her second Sea Games appearance. The last time was in 2011 when she reached top 16 in Indonesia. In 2013, there was no bowling competition in the Myanmar edition.

“Our goal this time is to get as many medals as we could,” said Sy.

The other members of the PHL bowling team are Liza Del Rosario, Liza Clutario, Krizziah Tabora, Lara Posadas, Mades Arles in the women’s division while the men’s are Ken Chua, Frederick Ong, Jonas Baltasar, Enzo Hernandez and Kevin Cu.
