ZAMBOANGA City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac) ordered all villages in the city to immediately organize and reactivate their individual Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Badac) due to the increasing illegal drug use.
The Cadac, chaired by Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, passed a resolution urging the activation of all Badacs and the submission of their budgets for anti-drug programs.
Salazar said 93 villages have organized their Badac but only 58 have revitalized their councils based on the report from the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Liga ng mga Barangay.
She noted only 11 of the city’s 98 villages have submitted their anti-drug budgets for review.
She said there is a need to activate all Badacs as the interventions for drug surrenderees under the Oplan Double Barrel and Oplan Tokhang campaign will be done by the Task Force Cambio Vida in coordination with the Badac.
Based on the categorization of the Dangerous Drugs Board, drug dependents are categorized on three levels: moderate and mild moderate, which can intervene even as outpatients, and the severe case, which needs to undergo interventions in rehabilitation centers, according to Salazar.
