Palma hails end of war on drugs

CEBU Archbishop Jose Palma welcomed the move of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to temporarily stop the war against illegal drugs.

However, he asked the police officials to take the time to reevaluate the methods of their campaign by removing “undesired consequences” such as the deaths of several drug personalities during operations.

Palma told reporters yesterday that he also welcomed the decision of PNP Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa to conduct “internal cleansing” in his organization.

This, after reports surfaced that some policemen were allegedly involved in “tokhang for ransom” activities.

“Knowing that the implementers are the police, let us look into their procedures, how they implement the law and its consequences. Let us also examine our attitude with regards with this crucial program of the government,” he said.

Palma is not discounting the possibility that the police’s anti-illegal drug operations will be revived soon but he is hoping that its re-implementation will be improved.
